Shard Changes / Re: Publish: Time of Legends (1 of 2)

Running Razor/Steam in Administrator mode can help with some issues until you have a chance to restart your computer;
Sometimes when UO has large patches to apply, the patcher leaves file handles open after it exits - these file handles have file access permissions which cause the file to only be accessible by applications with equal or greater access rights. Because of this, Client.exe can not properly interface with the modified game files and causes random glitches to occur.

The last time smething like this happened was when the Blackthorne castle Dungeon was added to Felucca and UO's TileData.mul became inaccessible to the Client.exe, causing all sorts of issues with object collision detection for all items that use special flags to describe their behaiour (like "Wet", "Surface", "Wall", etc)

TL,DR; UOPatch.exe is flawed, make sure you have no other applications related to UO running when patching, reboot your computer immediately after patching and always run your UO related application in Administrator mode whenever possible.

It's not up to me, it's Kon's call; but I'm not offended or anything, I don't see a need for apologies :)
I just got an email about a reported post from these forums and I always check them out, I don't see any harm in telling the story at all, I had to double check the post date to be sure it was recently posted because of how old the screenshots are (8+ months old, easily).
I don't think it is frowned upon to talk about other servers, at least I don't mind, people talk about Pandora all the time on my shard because some people play both; there is also the fact that Pandora and Freedom are practically sister shards :)
TL,DR; I don't see any harm done, but if the screenshots and story were based more recently, I could see it being considered advertising and probably would have removed the post myself.

Apparently this post was reported for advertising my shard, but I see from the screen shots that this is from a time long before I took over, lol... What to do... Oo Kon?

Just a hunch, but is everyone using a pet when they crash?

General Discussion / Re: Server costs
August 11, 2014, 03:02:40 PM
Pandora won't be going down any time soon on my watch, not even if it had 1 active player.
We love it too much to let it go.
As for the server costs, let's just say it costs more than a Triple-A title game each week.

As for keeping new players, if you find you have to give out a bunch of stuff in order to get that player started - then we should be revising the starting conditions and the availability of resources to new player for starting.
I know giving away stuff is in good will, but it can also kill the enjoyment for that player as they then don't have to explore to find what they need; I recommend taking them on a tour instead, taking them to hunt for what they need, show them the ropes - and we will take care of the introduction to this amazing community.

Shard Status / New Server
August 10, 2014, 09:40:22 PM
Hi everyone, sorry for the abrupt warning, but we're moving to a new server at some point in the next 12 hours.
Expect some down-time, but not too much, I'll be working hard on the transfer.
The new server has similar specs to the current one, but we won't be hosted on the same slow network, you should see an average ping of 20ms to all of the US and 100ms for Europe.

The new land isn't Malas - and I know about the tier average, that is intentional, as long as you have one item at tier 3, you can place the house. This is because the new land was designed for the people who have got everything already, the new creatures will be extremely difficult.
After the new land is open, it will leave room to update current content for newer players on all the other facets.

Turns out it has been trying to detect the wrong network IP, I've resolved that now and it should be ready to play.

OK we're back up! Sorry for the down-time, I have been away from my computer more often the past couple of days, bad timing I guess - however, I did manage to put a decent amount of bug fixes in just now - and some improvements. I'll get the notes written soon, feeding the kid and putting her to bed first :)

I've just got home myself, I'm uploading a patch as I speak to fix the issues and get the server back on-line, won't be long :)

Development of the Abyss facet has been temporarily halted in order to fix bugs and improve current content.

The housing option in Abyss will be strictly limited to a single town and area surrounding it, houses will only be able to be placed within the town's borders and you will be required to have an average tier rating of at least 3 to place the house. You will only be able to place one house per account in the Abyss town, so no one will be able to wander in, place 10 houses and claim everything.
