Title: UPDATES Q&A
Post by: sandonato1400 on June 11, 2013, 07:58:30 AM
Just curious on any patch updates or future plans for the shard?

There is a patch in the making. It was announced a while ago, then it did not happen, but i can say watching test server & the things done so far, it looks promising.

But i do understand and i feel the same way: Takes long & seems to take longer and longer... :(
(Nothing against the hard work!)

Thanks, how do you log into the test shard?  I did it a few weeks ago but cant find the conversation that had the information...

You find it - when online - right under the Pandora login infos on the left side.

We have lots of new updates in the works.

We stand by our work, so they take time. As Vorspire has had the test shard up multiple times over the last month. It requires testing.

Thing with our updates, they arn't exactly tweaks or basic items. They are completely new system as large as Imbuing, we update less frequent, but the patches are much more of a game changer.

Already finished moving house, getting the family settled.
We had to rush the whole thing because the floor in our last place literally fell through and the land-lord refused to repair it, so I called him on his holiday and told him I'd cut the rent and that I hope the gigantic git was relying on it to get home. Still haven't heard from him since then... and I still have the keys.

The patch is coming, but delayed due to the lack of people logging on the test server and reporting any findings.

It was up for the past 24 hours, it will be up again later, in an hour or so.

The test server is always shown ONLINE on Pandora Website. Even when it's not. So how should I know if it's online for real?
I've also tried several times, cause I rly want this patch become reality. It's been a while...

Title: Re: Any update?

It's been up for the past 10 hours at least, so there is no excuse as to why you haven't tried at least once during that time, you can't say you're trying when evidently you're not.

Yes, it has been a while, time equals quality.
We work to our schedule, not yours, so please stop asking and just wait for our updates.

Oh Zax, you code? If you're a master developer of systems using C# with the RunUO & Vita-Nex Core engines, and have 24 hours a day to work on it with no other life we would love to have you on board.

But only if you promise that your hundreds of thousands of code is perfect and will cause no issues. Even having a period . in the wrong spot will not make the world boot up right.

Send me a PM if so. TY!

If that's not the case. Like Vorspire says, we run on our own schedule to produce the best work. When you run a world with millions of items for almost 5 years, many people's, including yourself and countless hours of hard work... you will understand why we are very careful and precise. -- I haven't ever even heard of a free shard offering a test shard for players to try out new stuff to find bugs... It's too much work, a lot more time required from Vorspire to do that. Most shards Devs & Owners won't do it. They just throw the patch in and hope it works. That's why shards go down all the time. -----

I mean to make our lives easier, we could just forget all patches years ago, and just let the server remain the same... That would be so easy and nice for us!!!!  Or we could put out an update every week. That update would be 2 things on it... a new mongbat spawn outside Moonglow and an ankh placed outside shame. - That's it.

May I ask what the one has to do with the other? For me the Website also says that the Testserver is Online all the time. Last time i tried to login it didn't work. (Didn't try in the last 10 hours cause we were sleeping and at work.) Now it works. But what does that have to do with coding if we just ask that? :(

I know what hard work that is to run all that. But i think atleast 3 people asked why they can't log on the test server if it says online on the website. We will log there now and test whatever we can test.
Title: Re: Any update?
Post by: Voxpire on July 08, 2013, 07:12:54 AM
The test server is hosted on my personal computer, not on the same machine as the live shard.
This means that we can not accurately predict when the test server is online or offline, up to this point, I have had to manually enable/disable the box on this website with the information. Instead of doing that 10 times a day, I just leave it enabled if I know it's going to be up for at least 10 out of 24 hours. There are times when it's offline, and even for 5 minutes it can seem like it's not going to be online and it's easy to brush it off and not bother trying again. This is why I suggest trying once an hour, if you really do want to test.

Zax, the reason you are getting responses like this, is because you come across as pushy, sure you're positive and excited and we really do appreciate that, but what we don't appreciate is that you almost always add a complaint that it's taking too long, or has taken some time to accomplish. We are fully aware of how long it's taking and we don't need to be reminded constantly. This is probably why Kon has asked if you're a developer, so that he might be able to justify your attitude (to your benefit) towards the time it takes to complete quality work. We do understand that anticipation is equally frustrating, but we can't update with new information if there is none available. We also do not want to give false hope by making statements about how long this and that will take to complete, but when faced with constant questioning, we barely have a choice: estimate, lie, or look ignorant. We would appreciate it if people did not put us in that position.

I hope you understand.

I do understand. I am a GM on a RPG Server (NOT UO, this will be no advertisement & i won't answer any questions about that private project), so I have an understanding that things take their time. And the answer "It's done when it's done" is one i always give when someone asks about something and i have no intention to make false hopes or simply got no idea myself how long this and that might take to accomplish.

I think I'm a loyal and also very active player & I'm always trying to help, even with criticism (because this is the only way you guys can get response: What is good and what is buggy or "wrong" or fails to work properly and so on...

And sometimes, when I'm excited I know that i tend to seem "pushy" or maybe even childish. That I know. But I hope you, Kon and Vorspire, know, that I appreciate your work all the time. Even and especially then, when I'm behaving like a little dinosaur on speed and ask and ask and try to get a perspective.^^
I apologize if u felt "being pushed" or something but I want to make it absolutely clear that it's never been my intention to offend anyone. It's excitement, childish excitement. But i stand for this. ;)

I won't say anything about your reactions to my question, just because I hope that you might understand my intentions I just tried to explain, ok?

The reason I wasn't able to log on Test Server the last 10 hrs or so is simple: sleep & work. Nothing I can control.^^

I am on test server right now. If it helps I will post what I've tested & if there are questions/bugs/problems.
Ok?

Ty, and now we should relax again....

Tys

I understand. It's really nice to read posts of appreciation, but it seems that appreciation goes out the window as soon as people say things like "... it's been a while", etc. Ending your posts with a negative almost always offsets the positive. You could write 1000 words of praise, then end it with a single negative sentence and it throws it all out the window. That may just be my perception, but when I'm writing statements or asking questions, I always try to get the negative stuff out first, then sum the statement up in a positive way so that the point is still made but isn't distorted by negativity.

In context, if you say "It's been a while for this patch..." (the negative) and then continue on to say "...but I think it's looking really promising from what I've seen..." (the positive), you change the entire angle of the statement towards the positive and the negative is less likely to be noticed.

Far be it for me to dictate to anyone on how to write their posts, this probably all comes down to people being naturally optimistic or pessimistic.
I know that I am more towards pessimism, it's something I can't help, which is why I tend to pick up more on negativity than positivity. Most of you may have noticed that I don't take compliments very well, or don't acknowledge them :)

Post by: zaxarus on July 08, 2013, 07:54:20 AM
Well, no bad surprises when ur pessimistic, right?^^

As I said: Not a single moment it was my intention to spread any kind of negativity.

Ok:

Test Server:

House Customizing:

- Set Commercial: check
- Set Military: check
- Set Industrial: check
- Set Residential: check

Question: Why bonus on STR/DEX/INT? Does it affect crafting, too?

-> Works.

House Sales

- Built a house, clicked Ownership, set a price, put it on market, sell --> works.

Imbuing:

Checked all Imbuing last time i was on Test Server, Fala checked the XP Gain by killing monsters - all working.

One problem:
Cannot test Slayer Imbuing, cause after confirmation i crash (happened 2 times in a row).

So far...

Great feedback, just what I needed :)

The house category for industrial gives stat bonuses based on whether the categories are balanced, IE, why choose one or the other if one lacks certain features? Though I see your point and will probably just remove stat bonuses for the industrial category.

Slayer imbuing causing client crashes because (I think) the text displayed on the rune is too long for the client to handle. (Slayer descriptions are quite long) - I'll see if I can shorten the text, but as it stands, it's based on the cliloc game files so it's language-independent, so I'll have to sacrifice that globalization to fix the client crash.

What are your opinions on the amount of slots available for equipment?
I haven't counted how many runes are available for each piece of equipment yet, so it's possible that, at full tier 5 (15 slots) you might be able to add every rune available to one item (which is something I'm trying to avoid in order for people to mix and match different sets)

Ah okay, i will try again later to log back in then? Because I think i got a slayer rune in my backpack now.^^
(Tried to close my backpack faster than client would be able to crash me, but think I've only proved that machines are faster than humans, hm?^^)

1.) I noticed that Talismans will have now 5 instead of 8 slots. Would overpower all existing imbued Talis with 8 Slots, so we'd need to get XP to enhance them.

2.) Also I noticed that weapons will have 10 slots instead of 12; armor 10 instead of 15; jewels 10 instead of 12.
You can enhance up to 5 more slots, so weapons: max 15 // armor max: 15 // jewels: 15.

3.) Clothing: 5 slots instead of 6 (+ 5 = 10)

What i see now:

First of all the XP System is great. Makes sense & brings people back to PvM.

But:
What about all the existing imbued Talismans, Armor Pieces, Jewels and Weapons? Will they be overpowered then? Armor for example now has 15 slots. After patch every fully imbued Armor will be overpowered and can't be enhanced any further by XP. Right?
I suggest to let armor be the way it was: 15 Slots + 5 Slots by XP - or every player who fully imbued his armor will be punished.
Weapons: okay
Talis: I think same as with armor.
Jewels: Okay.

You have to keep in mind that there are new properties ahead & i have my doubts that anyone of the vets would want to make his gear again, for the third time then.

Title: Re: Any update?

If armor has 15 slots + 5, are there even 20 separate runes just for armor? Luck and Nightsight are ignored and I think there are 17 possible runes that work on armor, leaving 3 that will never be filled.

Any item that will overpower after the patch will gain the Tier equivalent of how many slots over it is, so if you have 15 slots full now, the item will become tier 5 - how does that sound?
In the future maybe we add more properties to imbue, but for now I think we should keep the base/start lower?

Need to see what others think too :)

This sounds better.
Means: If i got an overpowered armor piece with tier 5 on it I would be able to remove 1 property to add another one (if needed)? Let's say remove Faster Ethy to add one of the new properties?
Because if i got an item that is overpowered but has tier 5 i should be able to change properties within the max ratings, correct?
I also ask because even resists take space, too.

I do not edit, idk if u are alrdy answering, ok?^^

Question:
What's the Bonus Heal cap? 50? 60? 80? Cause 100 no one can get & gargs alrdy are disadvantaged.
(Not that i care, hahaha)

Edit:
Have to take back what i wrote about the armor pieces. Just simulated an existing item and tried to re imbue it within 15/15 slots with maxed increases and hp reg 3. Works fine.

Just checked the new Toolbox and saw that it does not hold Shovels like the 'old' one does we now have. Also i try to find out which tool could be the one in the imbue section cause the runchisel is in 'unravel' and the scribes pen is in 'inscription'. :) And what the section 'transmutation' is for. :)

Afk for a while. Checking more later.

"Daemon Dismissal" & "Balron Damnation" are not shown on weapons, the other slayer types (i like the new names) are shown.
(Checked this by [props cause no idea if that rune name thingy works now.^^)

Summary

1. Housing

House Customizing ("Manage Category")

- Tested "Industrial": working

- Tested "Commercial": working

- Tested "Residential": working

- Tested "Military": working

Every Category will last 168 hrs (= 1 week), that's good because you'd have to decide carefully your settings. Found no problems, no questions or bugs / crashing triggers.

House Trading (Ownership)

- Built a house, clicked Ownership and set price. House has to be public. Makes sense because you might try to sell a house with all included Deco and Items. No problems.
Idk if it needs an option for a seller's description, because some items might not be visible when in chests. On the other hand you could just lock down every single item you want to sell with the house. So just ignore this.^^
Bought a house, works.

2. Tool Box

A new setup of categories, makes it more comfortable.

Missing: Shovel, Pickaxe

Questions:
1) What's the category "Transmutation"?
2) Which tools are supposed to fit in the category "Imbuing"? (Rune Chisel and Scribe's Pen are in other categories.)

3. Imbuing Changes

Ratings, Runes, Properties

- Tested all imbuable properties for Armor, Weapon, Talisman, Jewels, Clothing. In general there are no problems (except the too long names for Slayer Runes, but you know).

- Simulated an "overpowered" Armor Piece (15/15 Slots) and tried to re imbue it - with success. You won't be able to put on every single property maxed out, so you have to decide and you have to set up your gear carefully: "Which property do I need where?"

- Imbued clothing, talisman & quiver with new properties: Evasion / Perception / Bonus Healing / Crafting Success. Works.
Also here you have to make decisions! That's good. Makes a gear more individual.
Questions here:
1) What's the cap on Bonus Healing? Humans/Elves can get max. 80; Gargs can get max 50. So the cap can't be 100. Is it 50?
2) What's the cap on Crafting Success and Evasion and Perception?

Material Changes

Crystals:
You will need crystals (1 to 3) for each property. When I was on Test Server a little while ago there was a Converter (an item) to change Relics into Crystals. Is this Item removed?
The drop rate seems very low. You already said that it's intended to be so. I checked some monsters (Elementals, Lurg, Medusa, Slasher of Veils, Virtue Bane, Dread Horn, Shimmering Effusion, some Champs, Stygian Dragon): The drop rate seems to be better on named Monsters, correct?
Also i killed a spawn of Earth Elementals: no single Crystal.
Concerning the fact that we'll need Crystals for everything this is a little hard, i think - so the converter was a good alternative if u'd had an overload of Relics.
From my calculations the average drop rate of crystals on regular monsters could be less than 0,5%?^^

Experience Points (XP), Tiers, Durations, Amounts of XP

How it works (might be interesting for those who don't join the Test Server):
After the patch every Item (Armor, Jewel, Weapon, Talisman, Clothing, Quiver) will not only have a Rating and a number of max. Slots you can imbue. It will also have something called "Tier". Every tier you get will give you +1 Rune Slots and + Max Rating. So if you get a Tier you get a slot.
Maximum bonus slots: 5.
You get a Tier by killing monsters. Every killed monsters will give you XP on every Item you are wearing. These XP are split up between people (damage depending).
You need:
100 k XP for 1st Tier
+ 200 k XP for 2nd Tier
+ 300 k XP for 3rd Tier
+ 400 k XP for 4th Tier
+ 500 k XP for 5th Tier
Means: If u get 100 k XP you got the first Tier (+ 1 Slot). Then you need 200 k more for the next Tier, then you need 300 k more for the next and so on.
(NOT 100 k per Tier, it's always more: 100, +200, +300...)

Killed several monsters to get an impression of the XP amounts they give. At bosses the rate is between 50 and 250 (average). A single regular Earth Elemental for example gives you 1 XP.
This is no low rate because you have to keep in mind that every item will get the same amount: Monster dies, 250 XP move to every item on you (not in backpack!).

Killed a complete Mephitis Champ Spawn including Mephitis:
9494 XP per Item. That's not so bad. Considering you might be with some people at Champ Spawns you might count with 10 (solo) to 30 Spawns (3 people) for 100 k XP (for you and everyone around you).
For next tier you can calculate with 20 to 60 Spawns (solo / 3 people) and so on. ;)

The best way to get good XP will be killing Spawns & named monsters (Peerless, Champions and so on).
It will be a long road to get it done, but this must be the intention. ;)

Hi i tried testing the imbuing system and i found a few things that i think  are in error  maybe. First thing i noticed when using the unraveling rune. you get rough stones blank imbuing runes and blank unraveling runes? i personally think that is just silly. That takes the fun out of hunting rough stones.  Second  i really think the unraveling rune. is just to easy to acquire materials needed for imbuing. i think the current unraveling system is just aggravating enough to keep me interested. i mean. where is the fun in clicking unraveling rune 20 times bag empty repeat.  I'm not complaining. I'm just one person and personally i like sitting at my house and unraveling for 4 hours and making runes from the materials Ive collected. these are just my thoughts. I'll test some more tomorrow if i can figure out why i keep crashing on test server

@mysterio, I'm going to make it less redundant - I'm removing Blank Imbuing/Unraveling Runes completely so it just uses Rough Stone, that cuts out one step.

You can also craft a single Item Unravelling Rune which will destroy an entire item, so you don't have to sit and unravel individual props.

I've also added a feature to craft systems, works kinda like the Mark option, but instead it's for Unravelling, if it is enabled, it will automatically unravel the item when it's crafted.

@Zax, your info has been extremely helpful in balancing the systems, thank you for your very detailed reports :D

is there anything that can be done with items that have a ton of runes but only one in the stat, like the pvp shroud? has 13? runes but only 1 in each stat, is there anything we can do so that we can add stats to it?

Cool.^^

Checked Unraveling:

Imbued a Crossbow with different properties to check the returning mats by Unraveling the complete item.
Side Note here:
What is interesting: With 9 slots (of 10) you reach the max rating of 11 k. So you'd need to gain XP to fully imbue a weapon (like they are on Pandora atm).
Means: Every existing fully imbued Weapon on Pandora will be on Tier 2 (300.000 XP) with 12 slots and can get 3 more Tiers for the maximum of 15 slots.

Imbued Properties & Mats were (no XP on weapon!):

Velocity (5 Relics, 10 x Direction, 10 x Gems, 3 x Crystals)
Balanced (5 Relics, 10 x Balance, 10 x Gems, 3 x Crystals)
Hit Magic Arrow (5 Relics, 10 x Feeling, 10 x Gems, 3 x Crystals)
Hit Fireball (5 EE's, 10 x Fire Ruby, 10 x Gems, 3 x Crystals)
Hit Lightning (5 EE's, 10 x Passion, 10 x Gems, 3 x Crystals)
Hit Life Leech (5 MR, 10 x Void Orb, 10 x Gems, 3 x Crystals)
Hit Mana Leech (5 MR, 10 x Void Orb, 10 x Gems, 3 x Crystals)
Hit Stamina Leech (5 MR, 10 x Void Orb, 10 x Gems, 3 x Crystals)
Spell Channeling (5 MR, 10 x Snakeskin, 10 x Gems, 3  Crystals)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
used:
15 Relics, 10 Direction, 10 Balance, 10 Feeling, 10 Fire Ruby, 10 Passion, 30 Void Orbs, 10 Snakeskins, 90 different Gems, 27 different Crystals for 9 properties

Output (Unraveling):
3 Relics, 1 Direction, 7 Balance, 2 Achievement, 3 Precision, 1 Snakeskin, 1 Reflective Wolf Eye, 1 Spider Carapace, 6 Rough Stones

Question:
Is it intended that we'll get back mats that are not used by any property on the unraveled item?

Edit:

Ok has just been confirmed: it is.
This i like.

Okay, the thing i was looking for to transmutate Crystals or to transmutate Relics into Crystals is an INVERTER. You use it with Alchemy and it fits in the Toolbox (Transmutation).
When i found the heat source i need i will edit this post.^^

Well, besides that heat thing (i think Vorspire will know what it is^^) we've tested (so far) everything we could.
Anything more to check we maybe forgot? :)

It's just because there's no transport system set up like on Pandora, otherwise everything is pretty much the same, minus world spawns.

Everyone gets a Game Master character, they have absolute freedom to add items and mess around with properties on stuff.

To get started, check you toolbar for the basic staff commands;
[who
[go
[add
[remove
[tele
[move

For a list of all available commands, use [MyCommands

When testing certain things, be sure to use your Access Cloak (everyone gets one in their pack)

The test server is a sandbox, so feel free to do whatever you like :)

Except for some bugs & things to be fixed / adjust, everything we've seen so far is more than great. :)

There is one thing that should be mentioned though. And this is no negativity at all, I just think it's better to talk about it now than later, when the patch is in, ok?

It's this:

As explained before, you will be able to transmutate Relics into the Crystals we will need for Imbuing. All properties will need 1 to 3 (maxed property) Crystals. You'll need at least 10 Relics (up to 20, depending on the success chance you wanna have) + some Residues to get 1 Crystal, makes 30 to 60 Relics for one maxed imbued property (fails not included).
So far so good. I think that's a perfect way for people who might need one special Crystal or are not able to hunt for whatever reason. In other words: good!

But:
You can also get these crystals by killing monsters. The drop rate is beyond being low, since we've killed about 1000 monsters on the test server and got only 7 crystals...
This is way too low, since we'll need the crystals for every single property. Even vets will soon reach their limit on Relics to exchange into crystals & even vets won't be able to hunt for all crystals they need, simply cause of time. I mean, you'd have to hunt 24 hrs per day, every day, every week, to get at least a basic amount of crystals.^^
I don't want to start about newbies...

Please think it over. Maybe the drop rate could get an adjustment? I don't say it should be easy or fast to get the crystals. But there should be a perspective & the chance to get them in an appropriate amount of time.
So, please think about it. This is just from a player's perspective & the try to fix this before it's getting frustrating, ok?*

Far from this I want to make clear that the coming things might result in the best and biggest patch this shard has ever seen.

Ty,

Tys

* Suggestion:
To adjust the drop rate of crystals I just got an idea:
Since Rough Stones can be crafted after the patch & also can be obtained by Unraveling, why not change the drop rate on Roughs to 1:50 & therefore make the drop rate of Crystals 1:60?
I don't think that this is too heavy since we'll need them for absolutely every imbuable property.
Just an idea.

It depends on where you were killing the monsters, the drop rate is 50% lower in Trammel :)

Don't forget, we are opening up an entire new map to play on which is dedicated to scaling everything by tier.

People who currently have fully imbued equipment will automatically have their gear tier adjusted, so most of you will probably be average tier 4 or 5, max tier is 5 currently.

Here's the Crystal Of Elements drop formula, which might be useful for you to calculate averages :)

double chance = 0.05;
int min = 1;
int max = 1;

if (m is BasePeerless)
{
chance = 1.00;
min = 2;
max = 3;
}
else if (m is BaseChampion)
{
if (((BaseChampion)m).IsNewbie)
{
chance = 0.50;
max = 2;
}
else
{
chance = 1.00;
min = 2;
max = 3;
}
}
else if (m is AbyssalCreature)
{
var ac = (AbyssalCreature)m;

chance = ac.ScaleValue(0.10);
min = ac.Tier;
max = min + (int)(ac.ScaleValue(0.01) * 100.0);
}
else if (m.HitsMax >= 500000)
{
chance = 0.50;
max = 5;
}
else if (m.HitsMax >= 250000)
{
chance = 0.40;
max = 4;
}
else if (m.HitsMax >= 100000)
{
chance = 0.20;
max = 3;
}
else if (m.HitsMax >= 10000)
{
chance = 0.10;
max = 2;
}

//Reduce chance according to map
if (c.Map == Map.Trammel)
{
chance /= 2;
}

Tys loves spoilers.^^

On the other hand he also likes surprises. Now what to decide? hmmmm

Might check that drop rate on another facet. Or is there anything else that needs further or new testing? Just say a word.

"Final Testing"

so far:

- The drop rate of the crystals has been adjusted. MUCH MUCH better now. It's not too hard, not too easy in Fel Facet. The average drop rate after a whole spawn is about 10 to 30 (different crystals), so considering the important function of these new materials this is rly okay.

- Checked Tool Box: Runic Tools are working with it. Sewing Kits: Names are not shown in the box (but still working).

- XP Rate after killing spawns seems okay to me. Depends on the damage you do, will be splitted up between everyone who is killing there & gets (full!) on each item you are WEARING.
Example:
You kill monsters with an area dmg weapon, you get 20 XP (after a small amount of creatures) and every item gets 20 XP.

- Seen one of the new monsters, looks very very cool (won't say anything, but i know people who will love their hue^^).

After reading this entire thread i must admit that i am utterly lost with the new imbue/tier system. Someone is gonna have to write a guide for dummies on the new changes. If the test server goes back up, let me know, cause i'd like to actually test these things, instead of just dinking around with GM powers like i was...

Aye. The craft system has a major overhaul in this next patch (looks to be dropping very very soon...) After the patch, if someone can write a great detail crafting/imbuing entry on our wiki, something a monkey could follow. I will reward with P Bucks.

If interested for the job. king@pandorauo.com

When you were there, on test server, then why didn't you just test it?^^

I'll just use this thread as Q&A again...

QuoteAny item that will overpower after the patch will gain the Tier equivalent of how many slots over it is, so if you have 15 slots full now, the item will become tier 5 - how does that sound?

That didn't happen or work? Just to know.

QuoteEquipment with properties that are above their imbue soft-cap will not count as extra runes.
