Title: Hello all ( seems like most introduction topics start like this :) )
Post by: jochem.fuchs on November 09, 2012, 08:18:44 AM
So, basicly, I started playing last week. But I've waited to introduce myself until I was sure there is a chance I'm staying longer.

In the meantime I've been playing for almost 30 hours ingame time so, I guess I'm hooked (again), haha.

I've played UO on and off for the past 12 years. I stopped playing for long periods, sometimes more then 2 or 3 years, and the longest I've played without serious breaks was 3 years. So I'm a casual player, and this is precisely why I've joined PandoraUO.

I'm a married man with a fulltime, and time consuming, job and several other time consuming hobbies. Therefore I can't spend so much time training a character like I used to. But I don't want a fully trained character to begin with.

This is where Pandora's nice training balance comes in. Yes you still have to train, but even with less than 2 hours a week you can still get quite far in a short time.

That combined with a decent playerbase and a fully featured, up to date server won me over.

My previous shard was Neverlands. A Pol shard ( though they played around with RunUO a few times ) with a quite rigourous training system. Basicly getting to any GM skill took months for a casual gamer and weeks for even the most vigourous player. I have to admit that achieving a GM skill there was far more satisfying, but it's murder for casual gamers. Besides that the shard has been shut down and restarted several times. While they always continue with the files from the last incarnation it means restarting your char, new staff and an ever shrinking player base.
This time around I didn't even want to try the new incarnation so I looked around for alternatives.

Hence this post :)

Should the easy skill gaining here bore me at some point I might try the sister shard, but based on what I've seen so far for both shard, I'm staying for at least a while.

grtz,

Jochem
( char: Corwin Barimen )

Welcome to Pandora....

Welcome to Pandora. I think you'll enjoy it here. Once you get your skills done you'll need to gear up. From experiance this is much easier if you find a guild ( as it helps alot to know what and where to farm mats ). I reccomend you look into NPA, SoP, or Soul. All 3 are always recruiting, and help new players or even old returning players get going again.

To get in touch with any of them
PM
NPA- Michal Helmsly
SoP- Nigel Horns
Soul- cleanyousoul or Minock

Once again I hope you enjoy your stay.

Aside from skill grinding, you'll find plenty of content to cover to keep you busy. Enjoy your stay :)

I personally loved the easy skill gain. Having to start a new character all over and go through the brainless and painfully slow repetitive task it took to get gains just so i can even attempt anything was never really an option for me. But if you find skill gaining to be up your alley, at least there is no skill cap here, so you can gm all your skills. Even the useless ones like begging. Or you can enjoy the slow and painful road to 120 animal taming!....But anyhoo, welcome! I've tried multiple different shards, and i still prefer Pandora over all of them hands down!

...If your like me and you like to always have a goal and be gunning towards something, i suggest getting into imbueing...

Either get into imbuing, or get a lot of gold and stuff to buy imbued items. Without them, you won't do much high end mobs :D
But you can farm mats and ask people to imbue items for you.
You'll find out most people here are nice folks, ready to help etc...
I didnt see a scammer or an a*s yet (compared to most other shards I tried).

I agree, Imbuing is the way to go, also try stealing, there are a lot of stealables available on the shard, always exciting to find them.....

Begging isn't useless, you can use it on any vendor during Halloween to get a treat :P (You still have until the 15th to do this) :)

Using the "Trick or Treat" with npc's I got a Halloween guillotine and a pumpkin pizza :) no candy though. The tricks are neat. I like the ones that change all your colours.

Create new char, skill ball 90, then transfer it with red stone to  your main :) Begging will then raise to 100 when using it.

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

Yeah at the moment I'm leveling any and all skill that seems usefull. Imbuing is definitely on the list :)

What is this red stone though? Didn't read or see anything about it anywhere.

Anyways, I paged Michael Helmsley a few times but we're never on at the same moment. But I already placed a house close to the NPA castle. Sooner or later I'll join, haha

I'm not even sure what he means by "red stone", last time I heard that it was used for connecting power supplies to devices in Minecraft :P

Red stone is a 3 month vet reward I think. You can store skills you have, and take them back. That means you create an alt on the SAME account, use his 90 skill ball on skills you don't have yet. Then you set these skill to decrease in the skill tab in UO. Then use stone with alt, store one of your skill. Log back with main, acquire the skill lvl. Rince and repeat. Kinda cheap, but does the work for skills you've been lazy/poor to train :D (need to wait 3 months tho, stone is an account related item, means no one can give you one)

Any input on begging plz ? Run a macro for hours, got 2k5 gold, not a single item... Is it suposed to be macroed 24/7 to get smthg ?

DamJ.NeT++

Sometimes the players are more knowledgeable than the staff, just as well too because I haven't been here for as long as some so it's nice to be able to learn these things from players in my position, thanks :)

Now that you explained it though, it seems far too complex, it could be easier, so I might modify it, make it easier and more clear.

Begging or saying "Trick or Treat" to a vendor during Halloween (up to the 15th Nov.) will get you a surprise.

haha you confused me with this begging thing... So I begged people instead of actually saying trick or treat. Works better now, thx :p

Confused me too, I thought using the Begging skill worked on vendors too?

The "Red Stone" is a soulstone Vet reward. I know I have one currently holding my Discord skill for doing Travety hunts.

And yes you can make a string of alts once a week to transfer 90 of 3 diffrent skills over.

No begging doenst work on vendors... I mean it does work the way its intended, they'll give you 10/20 gold and you'll lose some karma. But I gathered 2500 gold without a single item... That's why I knew somthing was fishy :D Saying Trick or Treat however doenst do the same thing :)

Yeah all those items were from vendors by saying trick or treat and clicking on them. I think you need to have GM begging in order to get anything.
