First thing..is I am NOT asking to be NOR volunteering for...

I truly believe we need more staff...I believe it would help retain some of the new players that come to our great and wonderful shard. I know how frustrating it can be to run into problems when you first start on any shard. I believe that if we could reach out to the new players when the encounter a problem, it would go a long way to building our shard count.

Most of the people on the shard are patient and flexible and helpful when they can be.(and no, I did not include  myself...lol...) Because we know how great this shard is!

When a brand new player comes in, and encounters a problem, even a minor one...and the rest of us cannot help, that is very discouraging..and I believe we lose some of them.

Just my two cents worth...

I apologize if you do not think we are doing a great job, I feel like to we answer pages as best as we can. If someone doesn't page using help button we don't know if they need help. Also keep in mind if you log out it cancels your page. Just stay logged in, even afk.

Also this isn't a pay game. So we do not have funds to hire staff. If everyone paid, then we would no problem.

Another thing to factor is our beloved GM who handled a lot of in game things has been dealing with some RL issues. Vorspire codes, I handle in game stuff as much as possible.

Also to put someone as staff is a huge risk. A staff with a little power can ruin many things, we have learned that the hard way like all shards. So we cannot just hire anyone. It takes years to build trust.

Very simple thing of easier said than done. It's hard to find good people in any job. Especially ones you cannot sit face to face with them in real life.

We will try to step up our efforts & maybe look into getting a helper of that nature. Always looking for new player helpers (yes now) who want a cool title above their name.

As for anyone that does not know yet you can type [pm clean your soul in game for any questions or even if u just need a helping hand with something. I tend to be active daily cept for the work time of course lol either way i will get back to you ASAP.

I know the risks of getting staff....and as far as pay goes....I don't see one single reason it cannot be volunteer work!! I know that if I was asked to be staff...I would not expect pay....(ugh..I'm not saying you should ask me..)

Hey, I read your post and didn't take any offence from it at all Gray, in actual fact I 100% agree with the point you made about us needing more active staff.

I've been actively chasing a few of my own old staff members, people who I worked with for a long time and I can trust, hopefully if they are willing, or get that itch for UO, they'll let me know and take me up on my offer.

I'm especially trying to bring my friend back to the game, because I've never seen a GM with skills and imagination like his; this was the kind of GM that could do things with stock game items that I wouldn't ever think of (he spent a week building a gigantic 100 x 100 tile invisible maze where the walls would only show if you were stood facing them).

Anyway, I'll talk with Kon and see if I can start a staff application section.
A forum where people can post their application in the form of polls and make their pitch, then the players can vote on the candidates to escalate them for an interview.
At least that way, we can all have input on who gets hired or not, instead of just leaving it up to me and Kon.
It's a fact that average statistics tend to be the correct answers. "Ask the audience"

There are a couple of people in our citizen roster that I'd nominate now, and many more that are proving themselves on a daily basis.

I would like more staff as well. If only to alleviate the strain put on you guys and open up your time to deal with bigger issues or improvements. Although i think you guys are doing an amazing job, you clearly cant be sitting in front of that screen 24/7.
But, may i be so bold as to say opening a post for applications may not be the best of ideas. The selection of a GM should be done by you guys and also be anonymous so that anyone who becomes the next staff member could do so with out guild mates or players knowing who it is and assume that there would be a bias because of their current characters allegiances.

...I do hope Gwen can come back, she was always so kind.

The voting would be to get a specific person a formal interview with me or Kon, if people wish to submit anonymous applications they can do so by emailing me or Kon with their application and we will make a post on their behalf without naming names.
