Ancient Vampire

I spent some time hunting in Ice 3 over the weekend, and, to my surprise found the ancient vampire down there. I think I fought him three times, and, each time, when he got to about 50% health, he teleported(?) someplace where he was no longer attackable. I would still aggro my pets (can tell by the sounds they make when they pick up aggro), but they would never get attacked and they would never move to reattack him.

Is there a trick to this fight or something I'm doing incorrectly? I'm using a Bake/Rune combo for pets and attacking with a heavy crossbow while using bandages.

You need to use the reveal spell, or detect hidden to find him after he disappears.


Sand crab does the same thing.
