Ok, there are very simple solutions to all these problems.

First, make Insula a 30 day only zone for newbies.

Second, reds can't go to Trammel (except for Luna/Umbra).

Third, remove auctioneers from all Trammel banks. Also, make it to you cannot make checks or check a balance at a Trammel bank. Just because you use a Felluca bank doesn't mean you have to pvp! These are guard zones for a reason.

Fourth, make house fighting a reality! This made for a lot of fun on another shard.

Fifth, make target cursor delay casting between .2-.3 seconds to prevent scripters from auto casting when the target cursor comes up.

This thread is about making people PvP more often. It's not about promoting PvP, its about require people to spend time in PvP zones. I think that if the current player base wanted to PvP more often, they would.

But they don't. Don't try to change things to force players to do things they don't want to do. That's not fun. As it is, I have the option to PvP with you if I want to, and eventually, when I'm done playing around with crafting and PvM content, I might do that. Take away my options, and you'll never PvP with me because I won't be playing here.

Give them a good reason to want to fight you, and they'll fight you. Give them a better incentive than just a ranking, and maybe they'll PvP all the time. Or, recruit more PvP-oriented players to play on Pandora.

I won't suggest you go play on a more PvP-centric shard. I'm glad you're here, and I really want you to enjoy playing on Pandora, and I'm trying to offer some options that might improve your gameplay experience without completely wrecking mine. Maybe it'll help? I don't know.

i can agree with fury on some level of what he's saying. It does it quite boring as a red waiting for someone to leave insula or a tram area so i can pvp. however like someone said earlier it wouldn't be an easy fix, i think more or less what you want is for UO to go back to there just being one land mass (i.e. No Tram or Fel) or a simple fix would be to make every area outside of a town a pvp area. I will agree fury that it was fun when every area was a pvp area but i don't think that this server will ever get to that point. sorry man but thats the way life is here.

I mine in fel and gather resources. I have yet to run into a red in any area of the facet except one in Delucia. I dont see the point of forcing none combative players into fighting. Isn't it enough that Malas and Illshenar and the Tokuno mines and dojo are PVP ? A player can not mine or harvest resources  or PVM in any of those lands with out a risk and now you wish to take away the few safe spots they do have to sit and associate outside of chat? Ultima never has been based solely off PVP and to semi- force that would be wrong. Just because my player template doesn't suit you doesn't mean I don't have a right to play in peace.

Just my 2 cents

Here's an idea...if you don't like the way it is here, get the F*&K out and play somewhere else. Stop your whining and bitching and go play a PVP only shard-Bunch of f&^kin whiners.

LONG POST ALERT!
I only just read this thread and many apologies if I'm necro-posting, but there are some valid points of discussion here.

Regarding Insula.
I was initially against the idea of Insula. It stuck out like a sore thumb. It felt artificial. Not lore-friendly. Not part of the natural world of Britannia. I didn't like the elemental training area cos it made training combat skills and training pets require no effort at all. The latter is especially damaging to the shard economy because since it's so easy for tamers to train pets, the market is flooded with fully-trained pets. It's commonplace to see players walking around with powerful pets in tow. It is fruit made to hang too low when a fully-trained Greater Dragon should be the highest of high-hanging fruits.

But I quickly saw that Insula has a very important purpose; being a meeting hub for a shard with a population still growing. See, if Insula was removed and there is no meeting-hub of sorts, then the players will have to disperse across the world. This is fine if the shard had a large player-base. But for this dispersal to happen to a shard without high population levels, it will give the impression of the shard being sparsely populated. Nobody wants to play a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG that's lacking the "Massively Multiplayer".

Shard should have a place for everyone.
I'm all for the shard to grow and flourish. This is good for everyone. For this to happen, attracting and retaining a player base is paramount. To do this, the shard should endeavour to have something for everyone. And by everyone, I mean both PvM-oriented players and PvP-oriented players. Note that I don't use Red and Blue players cos there are Blue PvP-oriented players (the kinds that attack Reds and criminals only). I presume PvM-players are happy with the status quo i.e. Trammel being the way it is. I know I am. It's the PvP-players that could do with a bit more of a setup to play around with.

Let the Blues live their lives in peace.
I agree with Samuel Adams in that non-combative players shouldn't be forced into situations where they can be attacked and/or ganked. If players prefer the slower pace of life where they don't have to be on edge all the time, then let them have it. Forcing them to do something they don't want to will just turn off players and make them leave, thus reducing the population of the shard. Which is bad for everyone, both PvM-inclined and PvP-inclined players.

More opportunities for field PvP.
At the same time, more opportunities for field PvP will definitely spice up the shard. What Fury was getting at is that Insula be made unavailable to Red players. That way, the players that are inclined to PvP and are Red can only access banks outside of Trammel as opposed to them being able to access Insula's bank right now. This effectively creates a situation where Red players can only bank in places where they are always under risk of attack by other Red and Blue players alike.

Though I count myself as amongst the PvM crowd, I can see the value of creating more opportunities of field PvP. The above is one way we can create such field PvP opportunities. Below is one other possible alternative.

Alternative implementation.
Make it so that Insula is the one place in Trammel where Reds and Greys can be attacked by other Reds, Greys and Blues without needing consent i.e. non-consensual PvP. Blues that decide to engage in this kind of field PvP will become non-Blue for a minimum timer of say 30 minutes since the last aggressive action taken against another player. This will force Blues into giving away their Blue status for a time, signalling to other PvP-oriented players that they are part of the "game" for now.

Net result? Insula is preserved as the meeting hub of the shard, PvP-hungry players get a place to mess around to parade their PvP-prowess and peaceful Blues can continue living their lives in peace. Everybody wins.

Deal away with Insured Items on Reds.

That will make PVP worth it.

Also - add some system that griefs the hell out of a majority so they are forced to quit leaving just the upper elite who in their higher education have mastered all aspects of life and know what is best for everyone else, forcing them to condone to their ideologues.

Wait, no. Id rather have more choices for opportunity than be forced into them. RISK VS REWARD system also helps ( as it is already in tact )

"Deal away with Insured Items on Reds."

That's actually a pretty good idea. Would make the new bounty system more attractive too.

If a player thinks he's badass and goes around picking easy targets, let's up the stakes. Make it so they stand to lose their items.

This might even get some people organized into murderer-hunting teams, lured into Felucca and other PVP-facets by the promise of good loot. This means more people in PVP-facets - exactly what the Reds wanted anyway. This could actually work.

Theres no reason we cant do away with Insula.
You can integrate every part of it in Britain just more spread out so reducing lag.

You'd get back the old school hanging at Britain bank and its a safe enough place to macro.

If someone had the time to put some effort into it, it could actually work.

Was sarcasm on reds thing.

Besides killing people and getting loot - maybe some incentive to being red?

Elcid

I think with the element of risk involved in venturing into "red territory" there should be a level of reward.

Better spawnsloot etc.

The incentive for being Red is the gameplay itself. Some players love the PvP game enough to want to impose it on people who don't. That's PKing in a nutshell, no?

Sarcasm or no, Enfo's suggestion might just come up with an idea worth discussing. If Reds cannot insure their items, two things can happen:

(A) There'll be little Reds cos nobody likes losing items.
(B) There'll be more players, Reds and Blues alike, in PvP-zones trying to hunt Reds for the promise of looted gear.

If (A) happens, that's unfortunate. If (B) happens, that will create a new dimension of play. PvP-zones suddenly become more populated.
