PandoraLore / Champions

Introduction

Champions and Champion Spawns are the way to collect gold (from the champ), XP (Tiers) and some Imbuing Materials (from the champ). There are Champions spawning on the Trammel Facet, but the majority of Champions can be found in the Lost Lands (T2A) and on the regular Felucca Facet.

You also receive Powerscrolls (up to 120 PS) from Champions. Infested Champions have the chance to drop 125 PS.

There is a difference between Champions and Mini Champions: Regular Champion Spawns are much harder to kill and the reward is higher. But if you are after certain imbuing materials a Mini Champion Spawn will be your choice.

This guide will cover regular Champions!

Champion Spawns: Basic Infos

What is a Champion Spawn?

The basic concept of a champ spawn is to kill as many monsters as you can, as fast as you can. If a certain amount of monsters has been killed, the Champion will be summoned. You have to defeat him in order to get his loot, maybe a special artifact, a skull, powerscrolls and possible imbuing materials.

If you do a champ spawn the first time, do not panic. Because tons of monsters will spawn, ready to kill you. There are ways to conduct and control a spawn to make sure that you don't die (or at least that you do not die a hundred times). Try to stay alive, kill the spawn and the champion!

Do not use a pet inside a spawn, it will get more monsters around you!

Starting a Champion Spawn

To be able to start a spawn you need a certain amount of Valor. By killing spawns you will earn Valor, so to start this virtue you need to find an active spawn and kill it. Usually you need to be "Knight of Valor" to enable a spawn (on Pandora you only need to be "Follower of Valor"). You can check the status of your Valor by clicking the hexagram on your paperdoll, get the cursor on the sword symbol.

To activate a spawn you need to doubleclick on the sword symbol (Valor) and then target and click the skull at the center of the Altar. It will highlight and the spawn will start.

Killing a Champion Spawn

You need to kill a certain amount of the spawning monsters to summon the champion. Considering the huge amount of monsters it is clear that you cannot kill them with a regular weapon. So you might need a so called "Champion Weapon".

These weapons usually have as primary or secondary weapon ability the "Whirlwind Attack" or a Magical Shortbow for the Lighting Arrow ability. So if you have keys for weapon abilities use them!

Examples for weapons with Whirlwind Attack are: Double Axe, Radiant Scimitar, War Hammer, Helbard

Basically you will stand and move inside the spawn and attack monsters with the Whirlwind ability or Lighting Arrow ability. Make sure that you are using all things that can heal and cure you:

Heal Potions, Cure Potions, Arch Cure Spell, Greater Heal Spell and last but not least bandages! You may consider to set up some macros or use script for some or all of these ways to keep you alive.

There is a way to make your Champion Weapon more effective:

Imbue it with Hit Area Effects. These are: Hit Cold Area, Hit Fire Area, Hit Poison Area, Hit Energy Area, Hit Physical Area. For more information check the Imbuing Guide!

Some people are also using Vampiric Embrace and Wither (both Necromancy) in a spawn. This is an option, but you may be concerned about karma loss!

Controlling a Champion Spawn

Sometimes it is not enough to just stand in a spawn or run around and attack the monsters. There might be a situation when too many monsters pop up in a certain area or when you realize that you won't be able to handle this huge amount of creatures.

Therefore it can be vital to know when this event comes true. There is no shame in admitting that the numbers are too large, but there is also no reason to give up: everything can be killed!

Just check for secure places where you can hide and rest. Look for special things in the environment like walls, buildings, caves, trees, rocks and so on. Use them to leave a bad scenario, take some of the monsters with you and kill them. Good movement and strategy can be the thin red line between life and death. You can lure parts of the spawn into other areas, run back and forth and kill the spawn in groups. Basically only your ideas and imagination are the only way to handle a spawn properly.

The Spawn

Mechanics

After activation 2 to 4 different monster types will spawn. This first wave might seem easy, but as time goes by the amount and strength of monsters will raise. On the altar you will see white candles, appearing in the center of it. Each white candle represents 20% of the advancement to the next red candle. The next candle is 40% and so on. If you reach 100% the next red candle will appear. If you do not kill enough monsters within 10 minutes of the first monster being killed at that stage of the spawn, the white candles disappear to 0. If you don't kill 20% of the spawn at a certain stage/level, also red candles will disappear and the spawn will run backwards. You will have to start over.

If you gained enough red candles the spawn will advance in its strength and also type of monsters. The spawn will transform slightly, then faster in another wave of monsters and so on. There are 4 levels in each spawn.

Once there are 16 red candles the spawn has reached 100%. It might cycle a few more seconds to minutes before the champ will spawn automatically. After the champ is summoned, the spawned monsters will remain but no new monster will be spawned.

Levels, Waves, Candles

Level 1:

1 to 5/6 Candles

256 Monsters

Level 2:

5/6 to 9/10 Candles

128 Monsters

Level 3:

9/10 to 13/14 Candles

64 Monsters

Level 4:

13/14 to 16 Candles

32 Monsters

The Champion

Fighting the Champion

Basically you have to make a few decisions when attacking a champ:

Will I use Melee or Ranged Weapons? Some champs are hard to kill with melee weapons, maybe because they deal hard damage or life leech. Then it is wise to use a ranged weapon and stay away from him.

Can I use my pet? Basically you can use your pet at any champ. Sometimes it is wise to use only one pet (when in a party) to keep the champ focused on one pet, which makes it easier for everyone to heal the pet. You also could use animated weapons (Mysticism spell) or other summoned creatures.

What about the remaining monsters? You can handle it that they attack the champ when he is using area damage or life leech abilities. While you are attacking the spawn you can kill them one by one or let them be killed by the champ. When he is busy you have the time to deal damage. It's also possible to provoke the remaining monsters and let them attack each other. If monsters break out or if the champ is able to spawn minions you can also use Provocation or use "Dispiro Malas" (Chivalry) to make them run away, maybe you can also just kill them if you have the time.

Champion's Death

When the champ is defeated some things will happen:

- You will receive Power Scrolls (105 to 120). If you or someone else is using Protection (Justice virtue) some powerscrolls drop in pairs and the amount of scrolls will be higher.

- You will receive a champion skull (see below).

- You may receive a special artifact in your pack which is explained on the Replicas Page.

- You earned Valor and maybe also Justice, Karma, Fame.

- A huge amount of gold will drop from the sky to the ground. You can take it with the [grab command and it will be shared between you and your company.

Champion Skulls

Everytime a champ dies you or someone in your company/party will receive a champion skull. There are 6 different champion skulls. You can use them as simple decoration or collect them and use them to summon the Harrower (see below).

Champion Spawn Locations

Champions are located in different areas all on Pandora. If you find an altar or active spawn, you are in the correct region!

Sometimes you may also have the feeling that you are in a champion area when there are special closed surroundings, a weird and terrifying atmosphere or some darkness may surround you - this is the place to be!

Basically you can find champions in Tokuno (Trammel), the Labyrinth (Malas, Trammel) in Bedlam (Trammel, one), the Abyss (Felucca), Eodon (Felucca)
and the most of them in Felucca Dungeons and the Lost Lands (T2A, Felucca). There are also spawns in Ilshenar (Felucca).

Third Level: Centaurs, Unicorns

Fourth Level: Ethereal Warriors, Serpentine Dragons

Third Level: Hell Hounds, Ratman Mages

Use a pet on him or set it on guard when you attack him directly. Otherwise use a champion weapon to clean the area. He can also transform you and your pet in a rat and you might drop your weapon in your backpack sometimes. Make sure you are not overloaded. Cast Polymorph on yourself. Slayer: Repond (Vermin when Rat)

Sleeping Dragon Champion Spawn

Dryads will calm you, make you undress and unable to fight. Satyrs can discord you and your pets. Same for Twaulo. If you really want to test your skills in this spawn, patience, nerves like steel and a good skill in Discordance, Magery, Healing, Hiding is recommended. This may take time! Also there is a chance that parts of the spawn will come as Paragons. Slayer: none

Minotaur Champion Spawn

Second Level: Stone Harpies, Arcane Daemons

Third Level: Pit Fiends, Molochs

Fourth Level: Archdemons, Abyssal Abominations

Champion: Abyssal Infernal

The spawn is hard, because most of the monsters have magery and will debuff constantly. The Abyssal Infernal has a huge amount of hitpoints. Also it will spawn Elementals and use meteors falling from the sky to kill you. It can do huge amounts of damage on you, even a one hit death. Use pets to attack the Infernal, also to guard you from the elementals. Keep moving and healing, maybe one in your party can use a champ weapon to kill the constantly spawned elementals. Use range weapons. Only melee when you have no other choice. Slayer: Demon

Primeval Lich Champion Spawn

Second Level: Silverback Gorillas, Wild Tigers

Third Level: Greater Phoenix, Inferni

Fourth Level: Dimetrosaurus, Allosaurus

Champion: Dragon Turtle

The spawn itself can be hard on later levels. The champ does a considerable amount of damage. Whenever you get the message about its scales you either have to switch from melee to range weapons (or vice versa) or from regular combat to spellcasting in order to avoid reflecting damage. You can also step away for a few seconds and then engage again. Slayer: Eodon (not existing yet)

Champion Skulls: The Harrower

The Harrower is an ugly beast which can be summoned with Champion Skulls. Therefore you need 6 different skulls and have to put them in a special order on an altar in the Star Room. A Gate will open and bring you to the location where the Harrower has been summoned.

The Champion Skulls

You will need the following skulls:

Skull of Greed: blue, by Barracoon the Piper OR Abyssal Infernal

Skull of Power: dark orange, by Rikktor

Skull of Venom: green, by Mephitis

Skull of Death: red, by Neira the Necromancer

Skull of Pain: yellow, by Semidar

Skull of Enlightenment: white, by Lord Oaks OR Primeval Lich

The Star Room

You have to get to the Star Room in order to use the skulls and to summon the Harrower. After a champion has died, a black moongate will open in the center of the altar. Use it to get to the Star Room or go to Keep and use the moongate west of the alter across the bridge..

Another way to the Star Room:

Move to the Fire Dungeon, move east, then west around a corner. Use the right portal, walk through Despise, move northwest and use the left portal, then move north in the Terathan Keep through the blue moongate.

Placing the Skulls

Once you reached the Star Room you have to place each skull on the altar, in the correct order (as said on the altar). A Gate will open, doubleclick it. You will reach the location where the Harrower has been summoned. You have to find him inside the Dungeon where the gate brought you to.

Known locations of the Harrower

Covetous - Level 2 in the large central chamber or Level 3 in the Throne Room

Deceit - Level 1 in empty room near the entrance or Level 2

Despise - Level 2, South of Orge Lord Island

Destard - Level 1, either in the main area or in the back near the shrine

Fire Dungeon - Level 1 in the cemetery or Level 2 near the center

Hythloth - Level 3 on the blood pentagram or Level 4 near the center

Shame - Level 3 in front of the West or East Mage Towers

Terathan Keep Underground - In the swamp where the Nightmare spawns

Wrong - Level 2 in the mess hall

The Harrower

After you found the Harrower in one of the locations you must kill him.

Preparations

Before you fight the Harrower, bank all uninsured items you won't need in this fight.

The Harrower

Once you located the Harrower you can attack him directly with melee or range weapons, also use your pets. When the creature dies, it will transform into the True Harrower, an ugly tentacle beast that looks like 4 week old breakfast. When you die now, you will lose all items that were not blessed or insured!

The True Harrower spawns tentacles. As long as they are alive, he is harder to kill. Let pets take care of the True Harrower while you kill all the tentacles. Be careful because they do high damage and the True Harrower can teleport you next to him and kill you. Once all tentacles are dead the Harrower is easier to kill. Attack him directly then.

When he is dead a huge amount of gold will drop on the ground. Also you have the chance to get a special item.

You will also get Statscrolls (+10 to +30), while Protection (Justice virtue) will duplicate some of them and raise the drop of those scrolls!

An Infested Harrower can drop +35 Statscrolls.

Slayer: none

Infestation

You can infest Champions and also the Harrower to get better Powerscrolls and Statscrolls. Keep in mind that infesting Champions and the Harrower will make them
stronger: more HP, Damage, Resistances and better Combat Stats and Abilities are to be expected. Some will be significantly harder to kill!

Infesting Champions and the Harrower

To infest a Champion you need an Infested Injector. Stand close to the Champion or the Harrower, then infest by double-clicking the Injector, then targeting and clicking
the Champion or the Harrower. There is no need to infest the Spawns.
The Tentacles of the Harrower will also be infested automatically, so will be any monsters Champions can spawn.

Scrolls

Infested Champions can drop 125's Powerscrolls. The Infested Harrower can drop +35 Statscrolls.
