Introduction

Gardening makes you able to grow plants. It is a non-skill based activity. You can grow many different types of plants.
Some plants will give you more seeds and other resources, others are used to make colors, while some plants are only for decoration purposes.
Taking care of your plants, keeping them healthy and watch them grow takes a little patience. But you can be sure it will be rewarded: Some colors can be sold for good amounts of gold!

Here is a short list of plant and color types. Check further chapters for more detailed information!

Plant Types

Breedable Plants:
These plants will give you seeds, colors and resources.

Mutant Plants:
These are special plants. They are very rare and include white, black and four different color types you will get as a quest reward (see below). You can make colors with them, but they don't give you any seeds.

Bonsai Plants:
These plants are just decoration items. They don't produce seeds.

Peculiar Plants:
These plants are plain decoration like trees, hedges and hops.

Color Types

There are the following available color types on Pandora:

Plain, Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Orange, Green, Bright Red, Bright Blue, Bright Yellow, Bright Purple, Bright Orange, Bright Green, White, Black, Rare Aqua, Rare Pink, Rare Magenta, Rare Fire Red

Plain Color

Plain color from plants is only used to remove an existing color from a colored item.

Plant Seeds

Types of Seeds

It all begins with the seeds. You need them to grow plants. There are different types of seeds, depending on the plant they should become:

Blue, Red, Yellow, Plain Seed:
Fern, Campion Flowers, Tribarrel Cactus: they give you plant dyes!

Common Seed:
Common Bonsai Tree (pink or green)

Uncommon Seed:
Uncommon Bonsai Tree (pink or green)

Rare Seed:
Rare Bonsai Tree (pink or green)

Exotic Seed:
Exotic Bonsai Tree (silver)

Exceptional Seed:
Exceptional Bonsai Tree (peach)

Peculiar Seed:

There are five groups, depending on the creature that drops the seed:

Group 1

Mutant Seed:
You get these seeds (black and white) by crossbreeding (see below). They are very rare: they give you plant dyes!

Rare Aqua, Pink, Magenta and Fire Red Seed:
You get them as a reward from a quest (see below): they give you plant dyes!

Getting the seeds

There are several ways to get the different seeds.

Blue, Red, Yellow, Plain Seed:
Boglings and Bogthings drop these seeds.

Common, Uncommon, Rare, Exotic, Exceptional Seed:
They only drop in Tokuno from killing the following creatures: Bake Kitsune, Deathwatch Beetle, Fan Dancer, Hiryu, Kappa, Lesser Hiryu, Oni, Rune Beetle, Yamandon, Yomotsu Elder, Yomotsu Priest, Yomotsu Warrior.

Peculiar Seed:
Group 1: Dryad, Titan, Tsuki Wolf.
Group 2: Ant Lion, Mummy, Serpentine Dragon.

Group 4: Yuka Mage, Kappa, Plague Beast.
Group 5: Exodus Minion, Exodus Overseer.

Mutant Seed:
You get these seeds (black and white) by crossbreeding (see below). They are very rare: they give you plant dyes!

Getting Rare Aqua, Pink, Magenta and Fire Red Seed: THE STUDY OF THE SOLEN HIVE (Naturalist Quest):

To get these seeds you have to complete the quest "The Study of the Solen Hive". To start the quest go to a Naturalist in one of the cities. For example there is a Naturalist NPC in the Britain Library.

Talk to the NPC by left clicking him and use "Talk". He is looking for a study of the Solen Hive nests. Accept the quest, enter the Solen Hive.

You have to find four nests. Find them by exploring the dungeon. If you are close enough to a nest you will get a message and your character will start making his notes. Another message will tell you when the notes are completed and you may move on to the next location.

Return to the NPC, left click him to complete the quest and you receive one of the seeds as your reward (random Aqua, Pink or Magenta).

To get the Fire Red Seed do as follows.

Visit all four nests in the Solen Hive when doing the quest (as described before):

To visit the fifth hidden nest use a "Green Thorn" (see below, Resources) on a sand area in Trammel or Felucca (double click it and then target the sand).
A hole will appear; enter by double clicking it. Study the nest as described before and return to the NPC.
You will get the Fire Red Seed as your reward.

Seed Box

To store your collected seeds you can use a seed box. It can be purchased for 50 PCoins in the Pandora Coin Store.

You can put seeds into the box by dragging a seed on it. To open the box double click it:

On the left side of the gump is a list of the plant types, the right side shows you the amount and the colors.
"Unknown" will show you all rare seeds you get from the described quest, all bonsai and peculiar seeds: You won't know what plant they will be until they are fully grown (when bonsais are in the list it won't show you their exact type).

To get seeds from the box click the arrow symbol.

Getting Started

What you need

To start your Gardening you need to get seeds as described. You also need the following items:

1 Seed:
As described.

1 Empty Plant Bowl:
Buy them at any Provisioner.

Dirt:
From a house/road/way or fertile dirt (from a Mystic NPC or Earth Elementals).

Water:
A pitcher filled with water.

Guide

- Fill the Plant Bowl with Dirt or Fertile Dirt:
Double click the plant bowl and target the dirt.

- Secure the Plant Bowl on your house

- Prepare the filled Plant Bowl:
Double click the plant bowl to open the Plant Gump. Click the pitcher symbol until the "-" disappears (usually 2 x).

- Repeat this with all plant bowls you are planning to use!

- Choose the seeds you want to plant and grow:
Stand next to the plant bowl, double click a seed and target the prepared plant bowl to plant the seed!

Breedable Plants and Crossbreeding

As explained before there are only certain plant types that will give you seeds, resources and dyes. Here is a list of these plants.

By crossbreeding the first generation of plant types you can obtain/breed new plant types (generations) and so on.

All generations have a small chance giving you a rare white or black mutant seed by crossbreeding.

There are colors you are only able to get by the described quest, they are the exception and not breedable.

If you cross the same plant types (for example Fern + Fern) you get the same type as result. Crossing the same color will give you the same color but the bright version.

Manipulating the Results of Cross Breeding

You can take influence on the results of your crossbreeding:

1. Plant Types

Example:
1 x Campion Flowers (first generation) + 1 x Fern (first generation) = Lillies (second generation)

2. Color Types

Example:
1 x Blue (first generation) + 1 x Yellow (first generation) = Green (second generation)

Taking Care of your Plants

Once a seed is planted it will grow automatically. If you don't take care of your growing plants every day they will die.

Every plant goes through different stages of growing. These stages also have different effects and options what you can do.

While growing, every plant can be in different conditions or stages of health, depending on how good or bad you are taking care!

Starges of Growing

Stage 1 to 6

Time period:
Day 1 to 6

Events:
Plant is growing, needs observation and care (see below) from now on until the plant is set to "Decorative Mode" (see below).

Stage 7

Time period:
Day 7 to 8

Events:
Plant is fully grown. You can start crossbreeding (see below).

Stage 8

Time period:
Day 9 to 17

Events:
Starting with Day 9 plant will produce one seed and/or resource per day. Plant can be set to "Decorative Mode" (with no production of seeds and/or resources).

Stage 9

Time period:
Day 9+

Events:
Once set to "Decorative Mode" plant doesn't need anymore care and can be used for decoration or producing plant dyes (see below).

Stages of Health

Vibrant:
The plant is in a good condition. It will grow and produce seeds and/or resources when in stage 8.

Healthy:
The plant is healthy and will still grow and produce seeds and/or resources.

Wilted:
The plant is in no good condition. It will not grow or produce seeds and/or resources.

Dying:
The plant is in a bad condition. It will not grow or produce seeds and/or resources.

Dead:
The plant is gone with poor sad twigs left. There is nothing you can do anymore.
You can still make dyes with the twigs!

Taking Care

To keep your plant vibrant and healthy you have to take care every day by doing the following.

What you need in your backpack

Pitchers filled with water, Greater Poison potions, Greater Cure Potions, Greater Heal Potions, Greater Strength Potions

How to do

Open the plant gump by double clicking the plant on your house. The plant gump will pop up and show you the condition and needs of your plant. Click the symbols in the gump to apply water and potions, while having the items in your backpack:

Pitcher Symbol:
yellow "-": needs 1 x water

red "-": needs 2 x water
yellow "+": too much water, do not apply more water

red "+": too much water, do not apply more water

no symbol: does not need water

Insect Symbol (left side):
yellow "+": needs 1 x Greater Poison (apply by clicking Greater Poison Symbol on the right)

red "+": needs 2 x Greater Poison (dito)

Fungi Symbol (left side):
yellow "+": needs 1 x Greater Cure (apply by clicking Greater Cure Symbol on the right)

red "+": needs 2 x Greater Cure (dito)

Poison Symbol (left side):
yellow "+": needs 1 x Greater Heal (apply by clicking Greater Heal Symbol on the right)
red "+": needs 2 x Greater Heal (dito)

Disease Symbol (left side):
yellow "+": needs 1 x Greater Strength (apply by clicking Greater Strength Symbol on the right)
red "+": needs 2 x Greater Strength (dito)
very rare!

The gump also shows you how many potions you applied on the plant (right side, left of the potion symbols)!

Crossbreeding

As described before you can crossbreed plants by color and/or plant type. To breed plants for resources you need to breed certain colors and types.

Guide

Open the plant gump as described before.

Click the "Flower Symbol" in the top left corner to open the Reproduction Gump.

Click the Pollen Symbol on the bottom and target the plant you want to pollinate (max. 2 tiles away!) or target the same plant to pollinate it with itself.

The color next to the seed symbol will change if the crossing will result in a new color. The symbol next to the pollen symbol will change from red "!" to green "+". This plant is pollinated and can't receive any other pollen from other plants!
It can still give pollen to other plants as a parental generation (father plant).

The described changes in the plant gump are refering to the pollinated plant, not to the father plant!

If you want to use only one plant as a father plant for all your crossbreeding (useful for plants giving resources) you can store it in a secured container. This plant won't need any care. To use it for crossbreeding it has to be in your backpack!

Gathering Seeds and Resources

As described before certain plant types can give you seeds and/or resources. You need seeds to plant and grow new plants.

You harvest seeds and resources as follows.

Gathering

Open the plant gump as described before.

Click the Flower Symbol in the top left corner to open the Reproduction Gump. To gather your seeds and/or resources click the Seed Symbol and/or Resource Symbol at the bottom. You extract one seed/resource per click.

You can do this every day from day 9 to day 17 or wait until day 17 and gather all seeds and/or resources from this plant at once (max. 8 per plant).

The Decorative Mode

Starting on Stage 9 (see Stages of Growing) the plant can be set to Decorative Mode. It won't give any seeds and/or resources once in this mode.

Set to Decorative Mode

Open the plant gump as described before.

Click the Flower Symbol in the top left corner to open the Reproduction Gump.

Click the symbol in the top right corner and confirm if you are sure you want to set the plant to decorative mode (this cannot be undone!).

Now you can use your plant for decoration or to produce a plant dye (see below).

Plant Dyes

Once a plant is set to "Decorative Mode" you can use it as decoration or to produce a plant dye.

With plant dyes you can dye the following items: Weapons, Armor, Clothing and Talismans (artifacts, for example "Totem of the Void" or "Slither").

Produce Plant Dyes

What you need

1 Decorative Plant in the color you want to produce
Scissors
1 empty bottle
1 bottle of wine
1 Silver Serpent Venom (from Silver Serpents, Medusa Serpent, Medusa and some Mini Champs)
Note: Instead of the decorative plant you can also use twigs (from a dead plant).

How to do

Double click the scissors and target the decorative plant to get plant pigments. The plant will disappear!

Double click the plant pigments to create a colored pigment. The plant pigments and the empty bottle will disappear!

Double click the Silver Serpent Venom to create a color fixative. The venom and the wine will disappear!

Double click the colored pigment to create your plant dye.
