NewPlayerGuide / Ultima Online - Carthographer

Introduction

UO Carthographer (UOC for short) is a supplement to UO's radar map.
It's a utility that displays a portion of Ultima Online's map. The map can be scaled, tilted to match UO's orientation, labeled and configured in a number of different ways.

Why use this when we have a normal map in uo?

Basically because it has a LOT more features and options. Just like UOAM it has;

Feature List

  • Allows you to link with your friends and keep track of everyone's location in the game.
  • Lets you chat with your friends while you play.
  • The map can be oriented with North at the top or tilted 45 degrees to the right just like UO's radar map (only better).
  • The map can be zoomed and resized.
  • Any location on the map can be labeled and categorized.
  • Labels are configurable: choose any icon, font, size or color.
  • You can define your own categories.
  • Places can be grouped and stored across multiple files.
  • Labels can be turned on or off as a whole or by category.
  • Find any spot on the map by name or by category.
  • Keeps the map centered on your player, just like UO's radar map (only better).
  • Super easy setup. No extra utilities to run. No special codes to enter.
  • Labels are available for nearly all of the major locations.

Installation Instructions

To install UOC, just click on the installation link found below and choose "Run this program from its current location." Then after you have carefully read the license agreement... lol? Click the [I Agree] button and follow the simple directions.

Download UOC Here
You will need the .NET 2.0 SP1 framework to use it, but most people should have it already. Otherwise you can get it from the Microsoft website.

After installing it, when you run it for the first time it will build the maps. This may take a few minutes. If this fails for some reason, right click on the map window and choose Options and make sure the paths to the client and the client selection are correct. You may need to restart it if you do this.

After the maps have been built you should be good to go.

Notes

UOC can use the UOAM ".map" marker files and several are included.

You can scroll the map by left clicking and dragging. You can also "flick" the map in the same manner to scroll quickly. Double clicking will toggle borderless mode and the mousewheel will zoom in and out.

Troubleshooting

Installer Fails: Run the installer as admin if you are on Vista/7. Redownload the installer and save it to a file and go from there.Should be fixed in 0.9.6.3

Black Window: Double and Triple check your client paths. Make sure you are setting the right one for your client and that it actually exists in windows explorer. 2d: Check it against the path in UOAssist and/or UOAM.

Doesn't Track: 2d: try running UOC as admin. It may have trouble talking to UOAssist on Vista/7 if the two programs are running at different user levels. EC: check the EC Beta subforum, there are mods and skins becoming available that make EC work seamlessly with UOC!

Server Does Nothing: Make sure you set a port number (11000 for instance), it may not be set. Make sure you use the "exit" button to quit it, closing the window minimizes it to the clock area. It doesn't really "do" anything when running, you'll see stuff in the log window when people join/leave though.

Window Goes Off Screen: Maximize it from the task bar then exit. This will make it show up in the maximized size the next time it starts and you can move/resize it then. This is a known bug. Should be fixed in 0.9.6.3

UOC Always On Top

Go Top-most
If you double click in the map window, the title bar, menu and scroll bars will disappear and the map will be made top-most so it will float above all the other windows on your desktop no matter which application has the focus. This means you can put UOC right over the game window just like UO's radar map.
Double click on the window again to get the menu back. Or just click on it with the right mouse button to get a popup menu that has all the same options as the main menu.
